Political Godmother is (sort of) here!
Or why you may receive a copy of my book weeks before the release date
On Saturday, a UPS driver left a big box on my stoop. I got really excited because I thought it might be the granola bars I ordered from Costco a few weeks ago. When I ripped it open, though, I found a dozen copies of my book.

Authors usually receive copies soon after they’re printed, so I wasn’t terribly surprised given that my book was supposed to debut June 1. Then I started getting text messages and emails from friends and family whose pre-ordered copies were shipping earlier than expected.
It’s rather anticlimactic, but Political Godmother is out in the world … more than a month earlier than expected. Why? That’s a very good question. The short answer is that the supply chain is a hot mess right now, and we’re just going to roll with it… which is pretty sage advice for a lot of things these days.
A huge thank you to all of you who ordered copies. I’m grateful for your support and hope you enjoy the book. We’ve now reached the point in the project’s lifecycle when I switch from begging you to pre-order to pestering you to leave reviews on sites like Goodreads and Amazon. Reviews are crucial for any book’s success, but they’re even more important given that I can’t promote the book through readings, signings and other traditional venues right now.
All of that said, the official launch date is still June 1. I’ll have details to share soon about a handful of virtual events in the works, and if you have an idea for a virtual event please let me know. I’m also planning on some kind of in-person tour this fall, so stay tuned and please tell your friends to subscribe to this newsletter for regular updates.
P.S. If you want to know more about what I’ve been up to, here’s an interview I did with my publisher about my life under quarantine. There’s a picture of my pets, so it’s totally worth the click.
